The Birmingham Royal Institution for the Blind (BRIB) is a company, limited by guarantee (No 1900123) and is registered as a Charity (No 516477).
In 1985 the Company took over the activities, assets, liabilities and funds of the unincorporated charity of the same name, which had existed since 1846. In 1997 the operations of Queen Alexandra College, Focus Birmingham and the BRIB Housing Society were transferred to new charitable companies. The BRIB housing Society changed its name to New Outlook Housing Association. To find out more about the history of BRIB click here.
BRIB uses its income from legacies and investments to assist the blind and visually impaired, in the Birmingham area; principally by supporting organisations, (Queen Alexandra College and Focus Birmingham) with the aim of enabling blind people to lead their lives to the maximum potential, improving the quality of life and encouraging independence. The support takes the form of grants, the provision of resources, expertise and encouragement to the organisations.
